A cushion cut diamond (historically called the "pillow cut") combines a square or slightly rectangular perimeter with rounded corners and curved sides. It features 58 to 64 brilliant facets that produce warm romantic fire and excellent scintillation, inspired by nineteenth-century Old Mine cuts.

A **crushed-ice cushion (Cushion Modified Brilliant)** has smaller, extra facet rows on the pavilion that scatter light into hundreds of shimmering micro-flashes. A **chunky cushion (Cushion Brilliant)** has larger pavilion facets that create broad, distinct flashes of rainbow fire similar to an antique diamond.

Because cushion cuts carry more of their weight in a deeper pavilion, they have an approximately 5% to 8% smaller face-up surface area than a round brilliant of identical carat weight. However, cushion cuts make up for this with their soft volumetric presence and lower price per carat.

Because cushion cuts retain body color slightly more than round diamonds, we recommend **F or G Color** for an icy white look in platinum or white gold (or H/I color if setting in yellow or rose gold).
